I’m Thankful For…..

I was asked by one of my patients who teaches high school to talk to her students about a career in Dentistry. I spoke to three separate classes for an hour each. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed this experience. I could not believe how fast the hour went, how well her classes listened, and oh yeah…..something that I found out preparing for the talk.
I did a web search on the cost of going to dental school. WOW! As I continued to search more schools around the country my first impression was confirmed, and probably a naive underestimate. A student finishing Dental School will have spent or borrowed more than a quarter of a million dollars, easily. That’s just for Dental School. Who knows what their undergraduate training cost?
So now what if you want to start practicing? My facility alone would easily cost three hundred thousand dollars to build out and equip.
Where did this leave me? Feeling thankful. Thankful that I am licensed to practice dentistry without student loans in an office that’s paid for with shelves full of active patient charts.
What’s great about this is that I believe that success breeds success. When you can deliver care to people with their well-being as the only thing on your mind they can sense this. This is a nice way to practice and what doctoring is all about.
